Shenandoah Valley High School recently hosted its first Mock Interview Event as part of the YES (Your Employability Skills) Program. A total of 33 students participated in 20-minute interviews designed to reflect the structure and expectations of a real job interview. This experience gave students a chance to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to a realistic, one-on-one setting.
The YES Program is a 120-hour, one-credit elective course aimed at helping students build the foundational skills they’ll need in the workplace. Topics include communication, resume writing, time management, team building, and more. In addition to classroom instruction, the program connects students to the business community through workplace tours, guest speaking engagements, and mock interview events like this one. These opportunities help students gain exposure to a variety of career paths and better understand what employers are looking for.
We’d like to thank the local business representatives who served as interviewers and provided valuable feedback to our students:
Angie Mahmod & Brittany Speidel – Mrs. T’s Pierogies
Mark Mikita – Wegmans
Bill Burke & Katy Jensen – Johnson College
Mike Joyce – Schuylkill United Way
We appreciate their time and willingness to support career readiness efforts in the community. Events like this one provide a meaningful way for students to build confidence and prepare for the future.
